Yakushima/Mt.Miyanoura②: To the summit of megaliths and grasslands

Heavenly paradise with megaliths scattered

The scenery above Mt. Miyanoura is a different place from the lower world.

From Hananoegawa to the peak of Mt. Miyanoura, if you raise the altitude a little and exceed the forest limit, a pleasant grassland will spread to the summit of Mt. Miyanoura.

When the wind blows, the green grassland undulates like ripples running on the surface of the water.

It is a granite boulder that juts out from the green. It seems that a big rock, which is more than 10 meters long when it gets near, is rolling indefinitely.

Granite island “Yakushima”

“Yakushima” which towers over 2000 meters above the East China Sea, is made up of granite. Granite is an extremely hard rock with magma cooled and set deep underground. This granite rises from 0 m to about 2000 m above sea level, so if it rains, it will quickly turn into a rapid stream and flow into the sea.

The bed of soil, which is the nursery of the primeval forest, is thin, and from the perspective of a thick rock layer, it is like a thin film

Only a small part of the granite, which is the main body of the island, appears on the surface of the ground.

Since ancient times, there has been a megalithic belief in Japan, and there is a shrine near the megalith. Even on the huge stones scattered around glassland, we could see small shrines in the back of the rock.

At the peak of Mt. Miyanoura

The mountain range of Mt. Miyanoura is sometimes described as "feminine."

The hard rocks will not block your way and you will definitely reach the summit if you are walking.

When you reach the summit (1936m), you can see Mt. Nagata (1886m), which towers like a green folding screen to the west.

On this day, the typhoon passed the day after the typhoon left, the blue sky was clear, and Mt. Nagata, which was shining with fresh green, was really beautiful.

I enjoyed a 360-degree view at the top of the mountain for a while while overlooking the sea of clouds over the ocean.

Deer in Yakushima: Yakusika

A little down from the summit, there was a subspecies of japan deer, “Yakusika”.

The deer is absorbed in the food without any fear of me.

It seems that the number of Yakusika, whose population has decreased sharply, is gradually recovering.

Yakusika is a smaller deer than the sika deer. It is believed that this is due to the fact that Yakushima does not have large predators, which are natural enemies, so it has become smaller in the process of evolution.
